Cannot stress this enough. If you want to watch some period appropriate shows/movies and are struggling with where to start, watch Knight Rider.

There's a ton of great movies and shows from the 80s that really accentuate the outrun aesthetic, but Knight Rider is a great place to start.

It's easy to follow (even while looking at Reddit), it's not a linear story so it's rarely required to watch anything but the first two episodes to understand anything, and it's just a great balls to the wall action show.
